About the Discovery Center "Supporting the wonders of early childhood, the energy of youth and the lifelong learning of adults through education and the arts." The Discovery Center was established in September 2002 with the transformation of the old Orono Primary School in Maple Plain. The vision for the Discovery Center began as a desire to see a small school building continue to be a valuable asset to the community when, due to district budget cuts, it would no longer be used to house Kindergarten students. The Orono School District was committed to keeping the facility open to the public by concerting it into a self-supporting community center. The Discovery Center is a hub for a wide variety of community programs, organizations and businesses with an overall emphasis on promoting arts and education in the community. The Discovery Center has become a physical support to both existing organizations and programs as well as a variety of new community programs. All of the programs in the building work together to promote the broadest and highest quality programs and activities to the community through the Discovery Center. The DC has something for everyone. No matter what your age, interest, ability or schedule-we have a class, program, or idea you will love! Plus, the Discovery Center is a great place to make YOUR ideas come to life! Every day, we take the ideas of community members and make them a reality. From music and fine arts to personal enrichment, the Discovery Center is bringing people together with new opportunities. Come Discover the Possibilities! |
